Abstract
ABSTRACT fhis study aims at giving an outline of second language teaching issue eondsidering its `development through history and emphasizing the so-called cognitive approach, the most recent approach to second language teaching. For this purpose, the concepts of »language*, and »learning/teaching1 are dealt with with a ispeeial emptors!® on cognitive psychology and transformational-generative grammar, along with a review of language teaching methods. Besides, the issue of establishing a theory of second language teaching is taken into consideration.
