Abstract
SUMMARY This research has been made in order to determine whether lack of education is an effective factor to cause employment accidents in sectors. This research has been administered for 18 months. The research has been projected and means of data gathering has been developed by examining the sources and researches published about the subject. 1917 workers working in Çayırhan and Göynük mines of Middle Anatolian Lignite District Administration that is responsible to T.K.Î Central Office constitute the population. The population has been limited with the workers who have been working on the surface and in underground mines of Middle Anatolian Lignite District Administration. 384 workers who work for Middle Anatolian District Administration of T.K.I, constitute the research samples. A questionnaire form has been developed as the means of data gathering in order to be applied to the workers. The questionnaire form includes totally 41 questions and has been separated into two parts. The first part includes 9 questions and the second part includes 32 questions. After the application of the questionnaire form, the collected data has been presented in the crosswise tables with numbers and percentages. At the end of the research, it has been understood that the workers who work in underground mines have more employment accident when compared with the other workers who work on the ground and the more educated the workers are, the less employment accident they have. It also has been understood that the majority of mworkers who have employment accident have the accidents because of carrying materials, falling, slipping and machines. It also has been understood that both lack of education and insufficient control are regarded as the main factors of employment accidents. Besides, as it is accepted that the important factors about the worker's fault for employment accidents are the lack of education and knowledge in addition to abstraction and carelessness; whether they are educated or not, at the end of the employment accidents, majority of the workers agree that lack of education has a percentage of 30 % to 50% for the accidents. About the prevention of the employment accidents, the majority of workers without regarding their duties, age, education, the number of colleague, status and the years that they have spent for their current jobs think that accidents can be prevented and decreased by arranging training courses. Against the results developed after the research, at the sectors claimed, to provide importance and necessity of the inservice training, to constitute a state policy in order to prevent employment accidents, to have the workers gain the desire to be educated personally about the employment accidents are the most effective suggestions. iv
