Abstract
In this research Ismail Hakkı Baltacıoglu's views on education are studied comparatively with curriculum elements, teaching strategies, methods and techniques, teaching principles and assessment techniques of modern-day Turkish system of education and current teaching programs and their components generally used.As a result of the research, it was concluded that curriculum elements, teaching strategies, methods and techniques, teaching principles and assessment techniques used in Turkish system of education and modern-day education systems has similar and different sides. Besides it was determined that many of Baltacıoglu's views, which he stated at least half a century ago, were barely put into practice 9 or 10 years ago; the most tangible example related to this was seen as his notion of `constructivism`, which went into our country's 2005-2006 primary school education programs. The signs of this insight, which asserts that a student constitutes the knowledge himself by deriving from his earlier knowledge and a teacher is only a guide and a helper, can be seen in his works called `Içtimai Mektep` written in 1942 and `Pedagojide Ihtilal` written in 1964. Also according to the `theory of multiple intelligences`, put forth by neuropsychologist and development specialist, Howard Gardner in 1983, which entered into our curriculum in 2005-2006 education year, human beings have different intelligence areas and during the education process this reality must be considered. As for Baltacıoglu he stated this reality by saying ` There is not an intelligence. There are 'intelligences'` in his work called `Pedagojide Ihtilal` 19 years ago.
