Abstract
Turning is the most commonly used forming process in machining. The geometry of the cutting tool and the adaptation of the cutting parameters are the most important factors in obtaining the geometric shapes mentioned in the technical drawing. In particular, it is inevitable to determine the ideal cutting conditions in order to obtain desired tight tolerance values (geometrical tolerances and high surface quality) for manufacturing of the parts in the hole-shaft operating systems. This is because machine parts which do not have the desired tolerance values lead to undesirable situations such as vibration and friction, resulting in shorter life span of the systems. For this reason, second process (grinding etc.) is needed to achieve these tight tolerance values and this second process increases the time loss and economic cost. For this reason, the production of parts with the desired tolerance values in one go provides many benefits. For this purpose, in this work, AA7075 T651 Aluminum alloy were machined in the lathe for the combinations of the parameters which are 4 different cutting speeds (100, 200, 300 and 400 m/min), 3 different feed amounts (0,05-0,1-0,25 mm/rev) and 3 different cutting depth (0,5-1,5-3 mm). After machining, the effects of cutting parameters on geometric tolerances (cylindiricity, circularity, linearity) and surface roughness have been investigated. It has been observed that the increase of the feed amounts leads to an increase in the geometric tolerance and the surface roughness values. It has been found that the increase in the cutting speed and the depth of cut causes a bumpy tendency in the geometric tolerance and the surface roughness values. The geometric tolerance and surface roughness values have been found to be at the highest values in the combinations with four different cutting speeds, 0,25 mm/rev feed amount and 3 mm cutting depth. It has been observed that in all experiments, build up edges (BUE) were formed on the tip region of the cutting tool, which increases geometric tolerances and surface roughness values.
