Z. T O ABSTRACT Adıgüzel, H. Ömer. `Play and its relation with Creative Drama`, Master Thesis. (Advisor: Prof, Dr. İnci SAN), Ankara University, Institüîe of Educational Sciences, Ankara. January, 1993. The main purpose of the thesis is to examine the position of drama in the scientific and artistic education concerning affective and cognitive areas, and is to investigate its relation with the characteristics of mainly child plays. The study is a descriptive investigation with scannig model. The some amount of knowledge obtained by review of literatüre have been the beginning point in the study. The findings and propositions of the study are as the follo/ving: The Creative- Drama is an education of art since it involves the aim, principle, and implications of ali study areas in the education of fine arts. in addition. it is an educational method which developes creativity and an independent area which is training the creative individual. The Drama is a kind of new fact in the learning. in an educational system based on memorization and accurnulation of knovvledge the individual ör the learner could not have been free from the /.- sanctions of various conformations, and have the notion by scannig, iiving and sharing. Thus the drama is an impo ant need for an educational system. The Creative Drama has /vrapped itself in a contemporary meaning. For this reason the dramatizaıion is very different from249 the concepts such as pîay - acting, school play, school theatre, and especially play. However, the Creative Drama also includes these concepts consequentially. For instance, some characteristics of play as freedom, an internal eternity. and spontaneity. for hedonisrn indicate some sources for the creative drama. The development of creativity and the training of creative individuals in necesary for an educational system in which the conformist ideas are predominant and becoming harder in time. Thus the Educational Creative Drama as a method and discipline should be put into implementation in Turkish educational system. First of ali, the training of teachers should begun, in order to be an educationa] area of Creative Drama and `drama` as a `Must course` should be taught in al], programmes of training teachers. Publications concerning the theoretical and practical aspect of Creative Drama should be published. Therefore, theçe should be f cooaperative work among the institutions like the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, the Contemporary Drama Society, and Educational Faculties. f'
