Abstract
IV DESIGN BASIS OF STEEL-CONCRETE COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION ABSTRACT The main objective of this thesis is to write a computer programme which will help to design a steel-concrete composite beam for building design by giving height of slab, spacings of beams, span length, number of spans, live load steel, concrete and bar stresses as data and getting steel section properties, location of neutral axis, effective flange width, stud and bar properties as the output. For this, Visual Basic programming language is used. Visual Basic is selected since the values are transfered easily to the Word and Excel platforms, and it is obvious that to work in Windows platform is easier, amusing and visual when compared with DOS platform. To come to that point I had to compile some related codes and finally took into consideration the AISC (American Institude of Steel Construction) and AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) codes. The specifications based on these codes, that had to be followed during the design were stated in detail. In addition, the advantages of the composite design were mentioned within the project. Furthermore, various examples related with cross-sections and their design procedures were given.
