Abstract
This thesis tries to handle two main drawbacks in the present control system of Taurus 60 gas turbine. The first problem is the lack of a model or a simulation platform to perform control experiments, whereas the second problem is the deficiency of the present control system to react against certain conditions in the turbine operation. The first problem is handled by introducing the start of analysis in order to obtain a full model of the gas turbine. The nonlinear behavior during the start phase is modeled. The aim is to provide a piecewise linear model. The basic transfer functions of speed and temperature are derived with reasonable certainty. The second problem is the deficiency of the solution of load rejection and flameout problems. They are problems specific to gas turbines. Different solutions are proposed to solve this problem. One solution that introduces an under-limit controller is simulated, whereas another solution based on scheduling is implemented. The implemented solution shows an improvement of increase from 70 per cent to 80 per cent of system performance for load rejection. Results obtained in this research are promising. The aim of the thesis was almost totally achieved, but some problems related to experimental conditions added some imperfections to the results of the thesis. Nevertheless, this thesis is a step in obtaining a complete model of gas turbine.
