Abstract
IV LOW-DEPTH-KEEPING AUTOPILOT DESIGN FOR SUBMARINES ABSTRACT Two types of multivariable auto-pilots for submarines are introduced. First one of them is designed with adaptive control techniques. A parameter estimation process is used to predict the d-step ahead output values. The errors between the desired and the predicted values of the outputs are minimized via a cost function, while minimizing the control energy. Fuzzy control technique is used to design the second type of auto-pilot. Seven fuzzy sets are defined for output errors, and eleven fuzzy sets are defined for the operating range of the hydroplanes. Finally, the effects of using in addition three fuzzy sets for error derivatives in fuzzy controllers are investigated. For both types of controllers, the mass of auxiliary tank content is used to remove the effects of constant bias at the hydroplanes and a filter is used to pre-compensate the actuator dynamics. Both auto-pilots are tested through simulations for various sea conditions.
