Abstract
IV ABSTRACT Eutrophication of lakes and reservoirs ranks as one of the most widely-spread water quality problems around the world. In industrialized regions, the development of an integrated view of land, atmosphere and water interactions in the drainage basin is necessary because of increasingly serious water quality problems. Ömerli dam reservoir that is located in the Asian part of Istanbul city supplies 32 per cent of the city water demand. It is now under threat of pollution because of the over population. In this study, trophic state of Ömerli dam reservoir and water quality conditions of both the reservoir and the creeks flowing in to it were investigated. In order to determine the trophic state, various models were applied and they all gave the idea that the reservoir has reached the eutrophic state. In addition, water quality conditions of the reservoir and the creeks feeding it showed that an over polluted situation interfering with the water uses and justifying the determined trophic state of the reservoir.
