Ill ABSTRACT KAKEYA PROBLEM IN ^-DIMENSIONS In this thesis, we mainly studied some recent results obtained by Bourgain, Tao and Katz in the last decade, on the lower bounds for Hausdorff and Minkowski dimen sions of Besicovitch sets. The key point in these works is the arithmetic combinatorial approach, that is introduced by Bourgain into the subject in late 90's. This is also the main focus of this thesis.
