Abstract

Thomas Hardy ve Behçet Necatigil dünyayı,toplumu ve insanın açmazım benzer açılar dan gözlemlemişler, ve bu yöndeki görüşleri şiirlerinde tersinleme öğeleri olarak orta ya çıkmıştır. Bunu tartşmak üzere tersinleme kavramı, tersinlemenin doğası, söz sanatı olarak tersinleme, tersinleme türleri ve tersinlemenin işlevi incelenmiştir. Daha sonra, Hardy ve Necatigil'in birey ve şair olarak hayat görüşleri özetlenmiştir. Ayrıca, tersinle menin metin içerisinde kuüaürıımının da kişinin hayatı ve evreni algılayış biçimine bağlı olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Daha sonra Hardy ve Necatigil'in seçilmiş şiirleri ve bu şiirler- deki tersinleme türleri beş alt bölümde toplanmıştır.Bu türler: `Durumsal Tersinleme`, `Genel Tersinleme`, `Dramatik Tersinleme`, `Evrensel Tersinleme` ve `Sözsel Tersin leme` dir. Bu alt bölümlerin oluşturulmasındaki amaç, her iki şai/in hayat görüşlerinin tersinleme türleri yoluyla ortaya çıktığını göstermektir. Sonuç olarak, bu şairlerin hayat görüşlerinin tersinleme öğeleri aracılığıyla somut laşması belirmektedir. ABSTRACT IRONY IN THE POEMS OF THOMAS HARDY AND BEHÇET NECATİGİL Kutay, Meltem M. A., Department of English Literature Supervisor: Prof Dr. Nail Bezel January 1996, 52 pages Thomas Hardy and Behçet Necatigil viewed the world, the society and the human predicament in a similar way. Their world views and their vision of life manifest them selves in the form of ironic elements in their poems. To detect these ironic elements in both poets' poems, firstly the concept of irony, nature of irony, its employment as a rhetorical device within a text, types of irony and function of irony are examined. Then, Hardy's and Necatigil's world views as men and poets are summarized briefly. Later, in five sections, each of which is about a kind of irony including the selected poems by Hardy and Necatigil, it is observed that the employment of irony within a text is related to how the poet perceives life and the universe. These kinds of irony are: `Irony of Situation`, `General Irony`, `Dramatic Irony`, `Cosmic Irony` and `Verbal Irony`. The aim of forming these sections is to show the manifestations of the poets' world views through the kinds of irony in the poems selected. Thus, the embodiment of the poets' world views in the poems through the ironic elements is clarified.
