Abstract
In this study, the performance of a vacuum glass tube heating system was investigated for a room that has 10 square meter area and 2.5 meter height. A standard radiator's front panel is divided into two parts and filled with phase change material to store heat when the radiation is generated. Radiator's size is 0.6 m height and 1 m length. As a phase change material, tricosane which has suitable phase change temperature and properties is selected. The developed radiator's steady state thermal power, heating and cooling behaviors have been examined. The heating system consists of the outer and inner units. The collector in the outer unit absorbs solar radiation. The water that is in the collector warms and passes through the radiator inside unit. Vacuum glass tubes were used as collector surface. The radiation on the collecting surface was measured by a pyranometer. In the inner unit, a phase change material radiator was used instead of the test room, so an aluminum section radiator was used instead. Thermocouples were connected to certain parts of the system and temperature measurements were made at the time of irradiation. An electric heater connected to the radiator inlet line for the water temperature is controlled and the water circulation rate is calculated by increasing the temperature. By means of an electric heater connected to the radiator inlet line, the water temperature is controlled and the mass flow is calculated by increasing the temperature. Using the mass flow and radiator inlet-outlet temperatures, the efficiency is determined depending on the heating power and the irradiation. The overall performance of the system during the heating season was investigated by using meteorological data.
