Dr. Birol KAYİŞO?LU This research was carried out in experimental fields and laboratories of Thrace University, Tekirdağ Agricultural Faculty as field and laboratory experiments in 1992. The aim of the research was to survey the plantability of pregerminated paddy seeds by the machines of mechanical wheat seeder and pneumatic sunflower seeder that are possible to be available on the farm yards. In this manner, a good alternative would be created to the manuel broadcasting method which has been widespreadly used inIV Turkey, has impeded the use of opportunities of mechanization in the growing process of rice and has also a lot of objectionable sides. Meanwhile, after line seeding by a seeder, cultivation operations would be able to be done cheaper, with lower manuel power and oh time. Seeding operations of manual broadcasting, line seeding by mechanical and pneumatic seeders were done at the same time. And measurements have been made on the paddy seedlings of 20 days. Together with the field experiements, pregerminated paddy seeds, taken through drill coulters of the seeders and used in manuel broadcasting, were experimented for their sprouting skills in the laboratory conditions. Evaluations were made according to seedling emergence percent in the field and laboratory, some physical properties of seedlings and also to vertical and horizontal distribution of seeds in the soil. While measurements of the seedlings, belonged to the plots that had been seeded by mechanical seeder, were similar to those of manuelly broadcasted, values of seedlings seeded by pneumatic seeder were lower than those of others. Seeding of pregerminated seeds by the mechanical seeder has been seen possible without giving considerable damage. However, it was noticed that the bridging of the seeds takes place in the seed box. And the other subject that must be cosidered is how to seed the large fields effectively.
