Abstract
In quantum mechanics, the space of density matrices corresponding to all probable states of a N partite system is a N^2-1 dimensional convex set. The space of pure states is the projective space CP^N-1 which forms a 2(N-1) dimensional submanifold on the (N^2-2) dimensional boundary of the whole space. An information source for this type of spaces is the concept of quantum entropy which is defined through the density operators. Some important concepts of convexity are given. Density operators and geometry of the space of the density operators are examined. The importance of the density operators for quantum mechanical systems is discussed. Classical and quantum entropies are investigated by means of their important properties. Information theoretical significance of these entropies is discussed. Finally, an introduction to Quantum Entanglement is made and information theoretical applications of it are mentioned.
