Abstract
Rock bolts are the support elements that help the rock masses surrounding the opening in the rock ground to carry itself. Cement-filled rock bolts are used in slopes of weak medium and hard rocks, tunnel faces and tunnel bases. These bolts are subjected to freeze-thawing, especially in areas close to the surface (frost depth) after producing in terrestrial climates. This can have a negative effect on the tensile strength of the bolt. Although there are many studies on rock bolts in literature, there are a few studies on the effect of freeze-thaw in cement filled rock bolts. For this purpose, the effect of freeze-thaw on the tensile strength of cement-filled rock bolts was investigated. Water / cement ratio (w/c = 0.4) was kept constant in the selection of the filling material (grout) to be used in the cement-filled rock bolts and 0, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% by weight of fine sand was added to the cement. The mixture which gives the highest uniaxial compressive strength (3% sand content) is used as filling material. Dacite-rhyolite material was chosen as rock. In order to determine the freeze-thaw behavior of the filling material, the compressive strengths of the filling material were determined by applying 0-25-50 and 100 freeze-thaw cycles. These samples were subjected to 0-25-50 and 100 freeze thaw cycles in order to determine the effects of the number of freeze thaw cycles of the rock bolts prepared with the selected filling material. At the end of each cycle, tensile strength and adherence stresses of cement filled rock bolts were determined. It was determined from the laboratory test results that the tensile strength and adherence stress of cement filled rock bolts exposed to freezing and thawing cycle decreased. In addition, as a result of the freeze-thaw cycles, it was observed that the compressive strengths of the filling material and the tensile strength behavior of the rock bolts produced with this material were in parallel.
