VI ABSTRACT Direct investments are very important for the developing countries. Besides the benefits they bring such as the technology, know - how, etc., it is noted that they ensure also an ease in the short term and contribute to the growth and employment in the country where the foreign capital is brought. Furthermore, the approaches developed by the economics in order to describe foreign capital investments are treated. Within the frame of theoretical analysis, the reason why the capital has an intention to open to abroad as well as the advantages and disadvantages it faces are studied. As for the countries receiving this capital, the macroeconomic effects are taken into consideration. In the second part, the recent history of direct foreign capital investments in the World and in Turkey is surveyed, the trends reaching today is stressed by graphics and tables. In this part, it is pointed out that the direct investments are rapidly growing all over the World. Moreover, the industrial breakdown of direct investments in Turkey is examined: the negative results of Turkey's cumbersome bureaucratic structure and the State's excessive part in the economy on attracting direct foreign capital are stressed. Depending on this, the problems faced by the foreign capital organizations are treated as well.
