Abstract
Along with the industrial development and the increase in power demand, the power quality in transmission and distribution systems has gained important recently. Especially in systems feeding cooperatively from distribution systems and having a variety of users from different sectors, harmonics cause vital problems. In order to overcome these drawbacks, passive and active harmonics have been developed. Passive filters have commonly been used to make harmonic filtration until semi-conductor technology is developed. Passive filters are preferred as they are economical and have an easy design, however, they are still unable to overcome all of the problems. In systems where loads change quickly and there are a lot of harmonics, passive filters are not sufficient. Also, the filters which are designed according to a specific frequency and power cannot perform their duties later on when new users are integrated to the system and therefore need to be designed again. However, unlike the passive filters, the active filters can do filtration up to the power extent for which they are designed even if there is a load change in the system. In the cases where they are not sufficient enough in terms of power, additional active filters can be provided when the needed control system is designed and their working in parallel is maintained. Because of these reasons in distribution systems, in order to enhance the power quality and decrease the harmonic disruption below the standard, the first thing to do is a detailed system analysis. The decision of which filter to choose must be done by considering both the technical and economical aspects. Especially in distribution systems which have a high power, economical aspects become more important. In this thesis, implementation of passive and active filters is carried out in a step-down transformer station in order to remove the harmonics measured at the secondary side. In the simulation study conducted, the differences between the passive and active filtration are discerned. With the help of this, the realization of how two different filtration methods can result in a energy quality standart level in a step-down transformer station is aimed at.The harmonic distruption measures is intended to be lowered below the standards with the designed filters.
