Abstract
-113- In girls' branches again the classical lycees place first with significant numbers of medals. Then follow in order the private schools, professionally oriented schools and other schools could not gain medals. Thus.it is understood that the kind of school is an important factor in affecting the sportive achievement and classical lycees are the most distinguished schools in this field. (*) Governmente schools where science courses are given in English following a year of prep-class. .112- SUMMARY In this research the situation of school sports is studied and the effect of the type of school on sportive achievemefrfis investigated in interschool competitions on the level of secondary education inTur- key. The schools themselves are invesetigated regarding basic factors like physical education courses, the importance and the present situation of sportive activities, the time allocated for training, sportsman-students, school administrators, sportive installations and organizations and an explanation of international dimensions fefe attempted to be explained The high schools are evaluated for the last five years in six sportive branches of Turkey championships of boys' and girls' among ten kinds of schools, from the point of view of the achievement Levels and the numberof medals gained. In Turkey successful teams generally emerge from the schools where the coordination among school, club, family and athletic federation is quite good, As for an evaluation of achievement from the point of view of school types', in boys' branches.the classical high schools place first with a subtantial number of medals. Then follow in sequence the private schools, the professionally-oriented schools, the `Anatolian lycees`(*) and schools of commerce. It is noteworthy that the first three ranks and medals are out of question for all other types of schools during the last five years.-113- In girls' branches again the classical lycees place first with significant numbers of medals.
