Abstract
86 ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to analyse the physical and physiological parameters of the hearing handicapped wrestlers who were in free style and greco- roman national team who would compete in 2005 Hearing Handiccaped Olympic Games and substitute wrestlers, and to make comparisons between free-style national team and greco-roman national team and between the athletes who were in national team and who were substitutes. The subject group of this study is composed of hearing handiccaped wrestlers who were in national team camps, whose mean age was 26. 25±5. 99- year, whose height mean value was 170.95±9.25 cm and whose body weight mean value was 76.600±14.658 kg and they are selected in national team. 7 of them in free style, 7 of them in greco-roman style and 6 of them selected as substitute wrestlers. In the study some physical and physiological characteristics of the subjects, such as age, height, body weight, training age, body composition, somatotype, body fat percentage, visual reaction time, flexibility, right and left hand grip strength, back and leg strength, aerobic and anaerobic power, lung functions, balance, resting heart rate, blood pressure, were assessed. In the statistical analysis of the difference between free-style and greco- roman style wrestlers and between national team wrestlers and substitutes independent group t-test was applied. In the comparison of free-style and greco-roman style team wrestlers there were not any significant difference found (P<0.5). On the other hand significant difference was found between team wrestlers and substitutes according to their physical and physiological properties (P<0.5). The mean age and training mean age of the wrestlers who were in national team were significantly higher then the substitutes (P<0.5). The right hand reaction time of the substitute wrestlers was lower than the ones who were in national team (P<0.5).87 When compared with the literature about the wrestler who were not handicapped it can be said that the physical and physiological parameters of the handicapped wrestlers were lower than the ones who were not handicapped.
