Abstract
The discovery of graphene pioneered the era of two-dimensional materials. Due to the mechanical and electrical properties of many new technologies that will allow us to enter our lives, research on these materials has increased rapidly with the presence of graphene. However, the biggest problem in the commercialization of graphene and other two-dimensional materials and the slow progress of their research is that these materials are costly and can be produced in very small quantities. Liquid phase exfoliation is one of the promising methods for producing large amounts of graphene. In this study, liquid phase exfoliation was investigated for the production of large amounts of graphene. For this purpose, firstly, to investigate the effect of sonication power and duration on exfoliation for liquid phase exfoliation process, pioneering studies have been done with DMF which is used extensively in this process. Subsequently, the effects of these solvents on exfoliation were observed by using different solvents in these parameters. The nano sheets produced as a result of the productions were subjected to sedimentation observation. This gives a preliminary impression of the exfoliation efficiency. Then, the most successful samples were examined by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Raman Spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). Thus, the effects of different solvents on exfoliation were observed with changes in the amount of time and power during sonication. It has been investigated whether there is a defect or solvent contamination due to the production method of graphene nano sheets produced.
