Abstract
Thesis) Mustafa YAKIN GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OCTOBER 2001 ABSTRACT Wood is a hygroscopic, anizotrop and porous material and with its some physical, mechanical and aesthetic features wooden material is superior in interior and exterior. Wooden material should be preservative for improving it's durability against outdoor effects. To establish a protective layer on the wooden surface is one of the most important method of protection. In this research the effects on the hardness, glossy and strength of adhesion of woterbome coating applied on the pine (Pinus slyvestris L.), beech (Fagus Orientalis L.) and oak (Quercus Petreae L.) wood panels by increasing their layer thickness have been examined. Examination was conducted according to ASTÜ-D 358, ASTIW-D 3023, ASTM-D 3924, ASTM-D 4366, TS 4318, ASTM-D 3359 The hardness, glossy and the adhesion strenght of the woterbome varnishes has been found less effective than conventional (VOC) varnishes and there has been no effect of the variety of aplication on physcial features of the varnishes. The highest hardness value was obtained on beech of acrylic emulsion (A1) varnish layer. The hıghest parallel wood grain of gloss value. Was obtained on the pine and the highest across wood grain of gloss valuewas determined on the oak.
