Dr. Şefaatdin YÜKSEL INVESTIGATION OF SHAFT AND BLADE VIBRATIONS IN BLADED SHAFTS (M. Sc. Thesis) TaylanMeteAKSOY GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY January 2002 ABSTRACT Defining the realistic dynamic characteristics of shaft-blade systems which are frequently used in machines is significant. In this study, the equations of motion of a shaft which bends under the effect of a force and a blade with an end mass are obtained individually by using Hamilton's Principle. Due to difficulties in finding an analytical solution, the assumed modes method is utilized to obtain approximate solutions. Later, these equations are solved separately with the aid of a computer program written in the commercial software Mathcad® which uses the 4th order Runge-Kutta method. Considering the axial component of the blade inertia as an unbalance force on the shaft and the elastic motion of the shaft as the base excitation on the blade, the equations of motions of the shaft-blade system are solved simultaneously by the aid of commercial software Mathconnex®. The simulation results for the deflection of shaft and the tip of the blade are presented in the form of graphics and some results are derived from these graphics.
