Abstract
The construction of q-analysis is based on the definition of q-derivative by substitution of x by qx0 in classical derivative. By the help of this definition, many concepts in analysis are translated to q-analysis. This translation depends on the idea that the new concepts converge to classical ones.In this study, firstly the concepts of orthogonality, orthogonality with respect to discrete variable and orthogonality with respect to zeros are defined. Secondly, Jacobi, ultraspherical and Hermite polynomials and their q-analogues are defined respectively as an example of the first two of these definitions. Main properties, generating functions and some equations due to these polynomials are given with proofs. Throughout this process, the dervation of different q-orthogonal polynomials from each other by definition or by the help of limit procedures are exampled. After that, Bessel and q-Bessel functions, which are the only orthogonal functions with respect to their own zeros, are studied. It is mentioned that many properties of zeros of the Bessel functions can be obtained by this orthogonality relation. Thus, it is observed that orthogonality is one of the properties which can almost completely be translated from classical analysis to q-analysis. Another observation is that not only the relations between the classical orthogonal polynomials, but also more specific ones exist between q-orthogonal polynomials.
