Abstract
Firstly, it was assumed that the only available information about the system was the time series being analyzed. Likewise, all the information used to move forward in the phase was obtained from the time series. In order to create the embedding space that would represent the phase space, mutual information obtained from the series was examined and the embedding was rebuilt for a delay time of appropriate length using the false nearest neighbors approach. We tried to determine whether the system was chaotic by drawing a graph of the data from the new phase space: we studied the lag and obtained the largest Lyapunov exponential. Both earthquakes were displayed as positive Lyapunov exponentials (nonlinear, deterministic systems). We determined that the phase of the Van(Turkey) earthquake was more chaotic than that of the Simav(Turkey) earthquake. The experiment was repeated using Ripple Analysis to reduce the effect of noise in the earthquake magnitude data.
