114 ABSTRACT The main purpose of the study is to evaluate whether the activities concerning artistically education and artistic shows in halkevleri (Homes of People) between 1932 and 1950 years would be considered as a model for the present artistic activities or not. The study consists of four main parts. In the first part after examining the topic of the study in Introduction, the problem, aim, assumptions, signif icanse, definations, method, and the limitets of the study were given. In the second part, Ideology of Kemalizm and its reflection on halkevleri were pointed out. In addition to this the organizational structure of Halkevleri was examined. In the third part the understandings and activities of the main artistic practiced in Halkevleri were determined. In addition, the numerical amount of artistic activities practiced in Halkevleri of this period was given. At the last part of the study, having some judgements on the topic of te study, some comments and proposals were formulated.
