Abstract
83 SUMMARY During the research, it has been initiated from basic problems regarding to primary education stages to reach desired targets of social science disciplines which have a big role in forming a conscious and contemporary society. In this respect, the main problem of the methods, applied in the course of Social Science, which takes place in the first stages of primary education, has been accepted as a starting point. The research has been enrolled by using the techniques of questionnaire and the literature rake under the umbrella of the model of the general researching thoroughly. The educational methods/strategies and the features, which can be used in the course of social science, were reached by searching through the field of literature. Besides, the literature is also adopted as a database in the preparation and formation of questionnaires, which will be applied to teachers. After the formation of questionnaire, it has been checked for the validity and reliability. The questionnaire is limited by `Geography and The World`- chapter of 6th class- and ` The Geographical Regions of Turkey`-chapter of 7th class-, which are included in the subject matters of the course of Social Science. The prepared questionnaire was applied to 125 teachers who are in the service of primary schools in the districts of Çankaya, Etimesgut, Gölbaşı, Keçiören, Mamak, Sincan and Yenimahalle included in the center province Ankara. 1 14 questionnaire are accepted as valid and included in the scope of research. In the analysis of the questionnaire data which used in the research, percentage (%) and dispersion of frequency (f) of statically techniques, are took into consideration. At the end of analysis, it is concluded that teachers give usually importance to traditional and teacher-centralized methods. It is meaningful that the rate of the application of the student-central methods, which considers discussion, interrogation in the process of the education, is very low. On the other hand, it is concluded that the mostly used tools and equipment which support the methods applied in the educational process of the course of social science are graphics, pictures, posters, maps and etc. At this point it is also determined that the rate of use of contemporary tools-equipment is quite low. The lack of appropriate educational ambience, insufficiency regarding to necessary tools and equipment, and scarcity of teachers in the use of tools and equipment and the application of methods are determined as the main basic cause of those determined insufficiencies.
