Abstract
ABSTRACT In this study, u>hat kind of changes may occorin the mechanical properties of glass reinforced plastics are investigated. In Chapter 1 u»e briefly dealed *oith differences in general properties of plastic materials in comparison uiith metalic materials. In Chapter 2 the structures of these ma terials,manifac tur ing techniques, varieties and casting tech niques are mentioned. Mechanical properties of polyester resin, twhich is a plastic material, as being matrix material and those of com posite material obtained by using glass strand^at as reinforced material are mentioned theoretically in Chapter 3. In the fourth chapter,u>hich is devoted to experimental studies, by using polyester resin, u»ith is commercial name NEOXILRP 325, and glass uioven and glass- ^strand mat as -.» rein-^ forcing materials me prepared tensile test specimens of dif ferent resin/glass reinforcement ratio. These specimens are subjected to tensile test and their breaking stresses and modulie of elasticity are experimentally determined. Also dynamic modulie of elasticity of these specimens are deter mined by using ultrasonic test methods.. It is concluded that reinforcement of plastics impro ves their mechanical properties as comparable u^ith metals.
