Abstract
AN INVESTIGATION OF THE APPUCATION OF MICROWAVE ENERGY FOR THE TEXTILE PRETREATMENT ABSTRACT: This study is an investigation of the application of microwave energy for the pretreatment of various textile fabrics. For this purpose, initially pretreatment processes and microwave technology are explained. The use of microwave technology in textile industry is also investigated. In the experimental chapter several pretreatment processes both as individually and as combined are examined by comparing on the bases of microwave energy and conventional systems. In regard of greater use of 100% cotton fabrics in textile industry, a very detailed study of 100% cotton fabrics is carried out and at comparatively limited extent 100% wool and 100% polyester fabrics are examined. The assessment of experimental results are achieved in consideration of five basic parameters (degree of whiteness, desizing, absorbency, tensile strength and seed removal) which are essentials of pretreatment processes. In conclusion, the use of microwave energy for textile pretreatment processes is put forward as an alternative method, and advantages and disadvantages of the method are discussed.
