Abstract
An Euler-Bernoulli beam that has uniîomn cross-section with separate centroid and shear center axes, and is made of an isotropic material is the main element of öne of these systems. Since elastic and mass axis, joining shear centers and centroids of beam cross-sections respectively, do not coincide for the most beams in practical applications, free and forced vibration analyses of such beams have been extensively investigated. Hovvever, it is seen that few pubiications deal with beams having aforementioned features, constrained by attachments at the tip and in span. Bridging this gap is öne of the aims of the current study. The main element of the other system in the present work is a thin rectangular plate of uniform cross-section. From the relevant literatüre, it is observed that the case of plate carrying distrib- uted mass is far less treated than plates with concentrated masses. On the other hand, a plate with two distributed masses on separate regions is examined in this thesis, and possible practi¬ cal applications of such a model are presented.. Using appropriate methods, modal analyze is performed for both systems, thereby how attachment properties affect the natural frequencies and modal shapes of the systems can be investigated. The obtaining of the time-varying displacements of a point on plate ör beam is explained, and numerical applications are given. Two significant conclusions dravvn from the present study are as follovvs: 1) The increase in tip mass amount affects the second natural frequencies of the two beams with different geometric and material properties considerably more than the other frequencies. 2) Free vibrational modes and natural frequencies of a plate carrying two distributed masses change remarkably as öne of the attachments is moved on the plate while the other is fıxed. If a distributed force with constant frequency is applied on the fixed mass, the second mass cannot be placed on the plate arbitrarily due to the probability of reso- nance. Hovvever, the most appropriate place vvhere the second mass undergoes the least vibra¬ tion can be determined with the help of the model proposed in this study.
