dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT This thesis is an empirical survey of the superior- subordinate communication in the Nigeria Port Authority, Apapa Quay. The objective of this study is to evaluate the ; superior-subordinate communication by looking into some aspect of the relation between the two that may create hinderance in, their communicating level, and also an attempt was made to evaluate the kind of information that is directed downward and upward in the organization. A mail questionnaire was administered on fifty literate and illiterate subjects of the Nigeria Port Authority Apapa Quay (out of a total population 500) using the simple random technique. Major findings indicates that, there is deficiency in the superior-subordinate communication in the investigated organization. The causes inherent basically are tied to the types of downward directed formation. This type of information flow is not enough to produce positive results from the subordinates point of view,- regarding the problems they are facing during the course of accomplishing their objectives. The attitude of the superior also have the negative effect - m -upon the subordinates from giving feedback to superiors over the overall issues faced in their jobs. The data further revealed that organizational emphasis is being laid on rules and regulations and organizational control to achieve its objectives. Despite emphasis being laid on strict control workers are not provided with full understanding of how their tasks are geared to related jobs of other subsystem. The findings has further proved that, there is moral laxity in attitude towards the application of leadership practices. Finally subordinates are not given the chance to share their ideas in the organization, which reduces their creativity to almost zero. _ 1 v - | en_US |
