T The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship of life events, social support, and work status on the level of depressive symptoms in married Turkish women. The sample consisted of 50 working and 50 non-working women living in Ankara. The subjects were asked to fill out a set of self -report instruments that included some socio- demographic related variables, Life Events Sqale (lES), Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ), and Beck Repression j Inventory (BDI). Work status, number of life events, social support scores and some socio-demographic related variables were taken as predictor variables and 'BDI 'scores as the predicted variable, and multiple regression analysis was conducted. The results of the analysis showed that these variables explained nearly' 24 per cent of the variance in depression scores. Work7 status had no significant effect, / whereas husband's social support and life events were significant predictors of reported depressive symptomatology i level. The findings were discussed in the light of literature and suggestions for the future research were provided. VIen_US
