dc.description.abstractABSTRACT This thesis aims at exploring and explaining the linguistic problems encountered by Turkish learners of English in their writing. An error analysis was conducted on the writing samples of Bilkent University Preparatory School students. According to the results of this EA the most problematic areas for the learners were tried to be determined and some suggestions for the remedial teaching of these points were given. Chapter I presents an introduction to the study. Chapter II is a review of literature on Contrastive Analysis and Error Analysis. Chapter III is about the methodology used in this study; collection of data, identification and classification of errors into error types, and the analysis of the errors according to their source were further described. In Chapter IV, findings of the study are presented with the discussion of the results. In Chapter V a summary of the study is provided together with the conclusion. Chapter VI is devoted to the remedial teaching based on EA. It gives pedegogical implications of EA and provides some suggestions for remedial work. - xv -en_US
