T This thesis is a field stvidy of one village around Kayseri and the village circular migrants employed in the building indurstry. It is argued in this thesis that the dissolution of the traditional structure of the village has been realized by spreading of a specific building skill, over I he village population, which coincided with the developments in housing standards and the extension of the housing market in Turkey. The main focus of the thesis is the relationship between the specific migration form based en circulation of labour and the employment characteristics of the village building tilers. Within this framework, these are also argued that the organization of the building industry in Turkey is mostly casual. The large-scale use of irregular employment and the clandestine business practices are certain characteristics of employment structure of the building industry. The highest up-ward mobility in this trade, and the circulation of labour are the most important factors to affect the building tilers' position within the urban class structure. iven_US
