Abstract
IX SUMMARY The textile industry is one of the most important industry which have a wide range of industrial activity in Turkey. Because of its dynamic structure and contribution to total industrial activity the textile industry is the most developing sector in our country within last few years. A lot of product in textile industry is produced using natural and synthetic raw materials by different processes. Used raw and/or chemical materials, various processes, diversity of technologies for each processes and considerable amount of water used in these processes showed that the structure of this industry is extremely complicated. Textile wastewater is notoriously known to contain strong color from dyeing materials, a large amount of suspended solids, a high flocculating pH and a high temperature and COD concentration. Because of these characteristics, wastewater from textile industry can be considered as the most important reason of environmental pollution. In order to regulate the treatment standarts of these kind of wastewater, some regulations like `Water Quality Control Instructions` were prepared by the Ministry of Environment. Investment and operational costs of treatment plants have a great importance to textile factories which have the obligation to build and operate these plants. From the view of technology, local and economical aspects it is very important to choose the best treatment alternative for industrialists. To know the effect of investment and operation cost of choosed treatment plants on product cost is a great advantage to industrialists. In this study, the effect of investment and operation cost of textile industry wastewater treatment plants on unit product costs were investigated. According to this main purpose, a general information is given about textile industry and pollution characteristics of wastewater types. Furthermore, depending on pollution characteristics some applicable treatment systems were investigated and cost components of these systems were not calculated directly form formulas. To calculate and evaluate the cost components of treatment systems three study groups were performed: ® Investigation of studies made before about this subject. Information from firms which have activity in industrial wastewater treatment. Information directly from textile industry about wastewater treatment cost According to information taking from these three steps investment and operation cost of textile wastewater treatment plants were evaluated. In this paper, investment and operation cost and unit cost of produced fabrics were tried to find out for chemical+biological and single stage biological treatment x
