There have been many studies on the causes of alcoho lism, personality characteristics and intelligence factor of alcoho lics. The subjects were divided into two groups : the firs group consisted of 28 patinents who have abused alcohol for more than 20 ye ars (second group consisted of 32 paitents). The subjects were administered EPQ personality test and CATTELL intelligence test. EPQ test measures psychotic, extrovert, and neurotic perso nality characterisitics. The results of this study did not show significant differen ce between the two research groups (p>01). Both groups scored high on personality characteristics as psychotic, extravert, and neurotic. (Group I : psychotic 67,8 %, extravert 56,3 %, and neurotic 87,5 %). These results show that there are common personality characteristics found in alcoholisc. The results of CATTELL intelligence test exhibited a notable difference betwe en the two groups. This difference was in favour of the Group II (p<.02). Since long term alcohol abuse has a negative effect on intelligence the scores of the Group II's intelligence test sho-92 wed a significant decline. However, in order to support the results of our study the scope must be extended.
