Abstract
o..*. ' Kr~ vA T` '- ABSTRACT DETERMINATION OF SECOND-ORDER LIMIT LOADS OF MULTI-STORY STEEL FRAMES Coşkun ÜÇERLER Balıkesir University, Institute of Science, Department of Civil Engineering (MScThesis / Supervisor : Yrd.Doç.Dr. Erdal İRTEM) Balıkesir - TÜRKİYE, 1995 In this study, determinations of sizes for same geometrical multi story residential and office type steel structures for the first and second degree earthquake regions are investigated Turkish Standards. This is followed by calculations for different materials and geometrical changes due to non-linear behavior of structure and second order limit loads are investigated. In the first stage of this study, a multi story structure is designed according to the structures maximum proportional transpositions restrict which is called current earthquake regulation TS 648 Building Code for Steel Structures and TS-Y alternate design criteria which is lateral displacement controlled in first and second degree earthquake regions. In the second stage, steel structure is analyzed according to the principles of the both first and second-order elastic-plastic theories. These are studied according to the non linear theory for multi story steel structures using IMEP-3D computer program. The collapse safety, load parameters, displacement diagrams occurring plastic sections and their second order effects are presented by graphics and tables with a compact and abstract form. KEY WORDS : multi-story steel frame / non-linear structures / second-order theory / elastic-plastic analysis / collapse safety. m
