Abstract
SUMMARY Job design is an important function of human resource management concerning employees' job satisfaction and motivation. Scientific management approach which only deals with productivity increases seems not to be able to satisfy employees causing many problems to occur. Among them, job dissatisfaction, mental and physical fatigue and stress are the most prevalent ones. These problems cause absence, turnover, reductions in quality and production and worsening of inter personal relations. All of these developments show the degree of significance of the job-itself on the organizational effectiveness. Job must be in convenience not only with the technology but also with the employees. İn this concern, development of more humanistic job design approaches that focus on the harmony between the employee and his job is common. Such a design aims at serving upper level employee needs as well beside the basic ones. This thesis consists of seven sections. İn the first section basic concepts related to job design and its historical development, the second section theories of job satisfaction and motivation, in the third section important points and approaches of job design, in the fourth section new developments about job and job design on behalf of employees, in the fifth section alternative working programs new motivation programs and the relation between job design & technology have been studied and explained. The sixth section includes the application part and the seventh section the results and recommendations of the thesis. In this thesis, as a primary goal a theoretical base for job design has been established. In the application part, the main target of study has been choosen as analysis of the effects of personal need levels and motivation potantiel of the job on the personal satisfaction level by collecting data through a questionnaire study.
