Abstract
. In this study, the biosorption of copper (II) ions by Pseudomonas putida cellsimmobilized to the vegetable sponge of Luffa cylindrica was investigated. For thispurpose, effects of vegetable sponge particle size differences, initial pH, temperature, initial copper (II) ion concentration (Co) and the shaking rate on adsorption of copper(II) ions were examined. As a result of the study, optimum conditions were determinedas follows: vegetable sponge particle size 0.42-0.85 nun; initial pH 5.0; temperature30 °C; initial copper (II) ion concentration 25 mg L-1 and shaking rate 130 cycleminute-I. According to the kinetic calculations; in the case of P. putida cellsimmobilized to the vegetable sponge, adsorption rate (ro) and the amount of Cu (II)ions in equilibrum (Qrnax) were found as 0.077 mg g-l dk-1 and 0.39 mg g-l,respectively; while these values were 0.052 mg g-I dk-1 and 0.096 mg g-l for vegetablesponge without P. put ida cells.
