Abstract
Schrock type alkylidene complexes have been an important field of study since they have produced new carbene complexes and alkenes by metathesis reaction with alkenes. In this study, structural, electronic and molecular properties of Schrock type Mo(CO)5(CMe2) and Mo(CO)5(CMeEt) complexes were investigated in the gas phase at the level of density functional theory with B3LYP/LANL2DZ/6-31G(d).According to total energy values, the crooked conformation of the Mo(CO)5(CMe2) complex and the syn-eclipsed conformation of the Mo(CO)5(CMeEt) complex were stable. From the molecular structure parameters, it was determined that the molybdenum surrounding complex geometry is prolonged tetragonal. This structural finding was supported by IR, 13C-NMR and 1H-NMR data. The charge distributions of the complexes, the MEP maps and the HOMO-LUMO contour diagrams were calculated at the same level. Electronic charge on the carbene carbon was found to be positive, electronic charge of central molybdenum atom was determined to be negative HOMO on molybdenum and LUMO on carbene carbon. The nucleophilic nature of the complexes was estimated to be due to HOMO localized on molybdenum atom. Some molecular descriptors were calculated to predict the molecular properties of the complexes.
