Abstract
This study is prepared to point out the depression and social support of women at the postpartum period. The examples were from the 328 mothers, at the second weak of postpartum dated between 5 April and 5 July of 2004 at the Aksaray Şammas Vehbi Ekecik Birth Hospital in Aksaray city center. As data materials 'Knowladge form', 'Many sided social support measurement' and 'Edinburgh Postpartum depression measurement' are used.At the statistical values of percantege; Correlation Analysis, Varient analysis, Kruskal-Wallis Varient Analysis, Students t test, Mann Whitney U tests are used. As results; %39.9 mothers are between 20-24 ages, %59.1 educated from the primary school, %89.6 are housewives, the rate of marriage age 20+3.14, %94.2 wanted the marriage, %82 wanted pregnancy, %72.9 gave birth by the vagina, %91.2 had people after the birth, %62.5 needed help, %93.3 didnot visit the nurse after the birth, %80.2 wanted the nurse to visit after the birth, %65.9 were nucleous families, %37.8 were living with their housbands and chidren, the avarages of housbands were 29.09+5.29, %34.5 were educated from the school, and %32.6 were wokers. There was no meaningful statistical difference (p<0.05) between the rates of taken social support, the jobs of the housbands, number of birts, birth givings, marriage ages, and the education of the mothers. The education of the mothers, marriage ages, birth givings, birth numbers, support after the birth, help needed after the birth help needed ans status, nurse expectations and postpartum depression rates have a statistical meaningful difference as (p<0.05). Suitable proposal is given according to theresults.
