dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The central theme of the study is `motivation` in language learning; that is, the interest, enthusiasm and readiness of the student in his attempt to learn a foreign language. Educational attitudes are examined as influential factors in motivation. These include the attitudes of the student towards language learning, the teacher and the course. In examining these, Chapter I is devoted to an introductory survey of the purpose of this thesis. Chapter II enumerates not only the definitions and the varying kinds of motivation but also the attitudes of the students and their affects on the learner. The role of the teacher in foreign language learning at university level is presented in this chapter. Chapter III introduces a sample study aiming at evaluating motivation as regards university students' educational attitudes. Moreover, their motivation in the foreign language (English) being learned, and the effect of the teacher on motivation and attitudes in foreign language classroom instruction are dealt with at same length. Chapter IV is mainly concerned with the implica tions of the study for the learning and. teaching of a foreign language. Chapter V is the conclusion to my find ings which have been presented in this thesis. -i~en_US
