dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The main concern of the study is to show the significant place of dialogues in teaching English communicatively. Nowadays most textbooks are described by their authors as functional-notional / communicative these terms are contrasted with 'structural 'or 'grammatical 'and represent a powerful trend in modern EFL teaching. Therefore, the methods used in this area will be briefly discussed in Chapter 2. The communicative/ functional -notional language teaching will be examined in detail and be contrasted to Audio-Lingual Method (or situational/ structural language teaching) in Chapter 3. Finally the textbook, Opening Strategies basicly referred to in this study as functional- notional course book includes units in which language functions are presented in the dialogues contextual i zed in situations, such as 'using the Telephone', 'Asking the way', etc. Thus, this chapter will also focus on the teaching of dialogues effectively by showing and using communicative teaching techniques. -1-en_US
