T The purpose of the present study is to understand why er rors in the learners' productions occur, in spite of teaching, and to find out whether or not something remedial can be made for this un fortunate phenomenon. The first chapter attempts to give insights into the aim and scope of the study, including the method to be fol lowed. The second chapter represents an introductory part in which the mechanism for language learning is mentioned and which proves that learners have some learning strategies, which mostly result in erroneous production. Chapter three reviews the literature relevant to the subject, i.e., Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis and Error Analy sis. Chapter four attempts to introduce 'errors' in comparison with the other deviant forms. In the fifth chapter, errors are classified in terms of linguistic taxonomy. Some factors causing errors to appear are discussed. Chapter six introduces the prodcedure of Error Analy sis. Chapter seven is the practice section which contains a case study. The last chapter is the conclusion section in which a brief summary of the study is given. The study includes five appendices. Appendix 1 introduces some common symbols for the correction of compositions. Appendix 2 contains the preparation for the writing task. The third appendix includes the analysis of data taken from the students' compositions. In the fourth appendix remedial drilling is or ganized. This follows Appendix 5, which the test to be given to the students is given.en_US
