Abstract

Terracotta, var olusun temel ögeleri olan toprak, su, hava ve atesten dogar.Neredeyse, insan ruhu ile de aynı kimyadadır.Pismis toprak olarak adlandırabilecegimiz bu teknikle, yapılan tüm sanatsalüretimler, yeryüzünün bellegini, insanın bilgeligini içlerinde saklarlar.Toprak, yeryüzünün insana armagan ettigi en zengin arkeolojikolusumlardandır. Su ile karıstırıldıgında, kolaylıkla biçimlenen kile dönüsür.Bu malzeme, heykel sanatının en eski vazgeçilmez model malzemesidir. Nefesalmasına ragmen, kısa ömürlü olan bu malzeme, ancak ates ile pisirildigindekalıcılasmaktadır.Bu çalısmada, kilden üç boyutlu kalıcı isler olusturabilmek amacıyla,terracotta'nın geçmisten günümüze kullanılısı incelenmis uygulama tekniklerine yerverilmistir.Gelisim süreci incelendiginde, neredeyse insan ile yasıt olan bu teknik dogayauyumu, dayanıklılıgı, duyarlı anlatım olanakları ile, günümüz sanatçıları için, halaçekiciligini korumaktadır.

Terracotta is composed of the soil, water, air and fire which are thebasic components of the existence. It almost has the same properties of thehuman soul.All of the artistic products having been produced by this technique thatmay be called as ?fired soil? keep the memory of the earth and the wisdom ofthe human kind.The soil, one of the richest formations which the earth has presentedas an award to the human kind, turns into the clay what will be easily be givenshape when mixed with the water.This material is the oldest model material with its greatest importancein the field of the sculpture.Although it can breathe, this short-lived material would solely belasting when fired.The goal of this thesis is to point out the use of terracotta which hasbeen aiming the three dimensional ever-lasting products of the clay from theancient times to our day and its application techniques.When the development process was taken into consideration, thistechnique, which is almost as old as the history of the humankind, still keepsits attractiveness for the artists of our day with its harmony with the nature, itsdurability, and its facilities of sensitive exposition.
