Abstract
ABSTRACT In this dissertation a cross-disciplinary work is presented: Gaussian Markov random field modeling of the textural properties of the cytologic and histologic sections of the prostate tissue images. The textural information is effectively and efficiently characterized. For the classification applications of the prostate sample images into the normal or cancer groups, Bayesian framework is used. For a complete understanding of the image properties of a tissue sample, its biology and the biochemical mechanisms lying under it must be well known. This is concerned in pathology. In the field of computer vision, mathematical models are used to analyze the image. For a successful analysis, the modeling must be based onto the properties of the image/Thus, a fusion is needed between the disciplines and this is accomplished in this thesis. The solution of a real world problem, cancer diagnosis in prostate was achieved by Gaussian Markov random field texture modeling. Object oriented programming techniques were used for the implementation of image processing and modeling algorithms.
