Abstract
In this thesis, the effect of flexibility on the circular trajectory of a planar two-link flexible manipulator is studied using computer-aided design (CAD) procedures. The end point trajectory and the payload are defined as inputs. The angular positions, velocities, accelerations, joint forces and the necessary external motor torques are calculated by using the rigid body dynamics. The forces and torques acting on the each link and the distributed inertial forces are used as the inputs to I-DEAS. The effect of the vibration of the links on the end point trajectory is analyzed. The deviations of the end point from the required trajectory are studied with different motion input curves. The effect of changing the motion inputs applied to the work path to follow the trajectory is analyzed. It is observed that the open-loop control of vibration can be achieved by the design of the motion input. Eight different motion inputs are applied to the end point of the planar two-link flexible manipulator to reduce vibration and to perform an open-loop control. The finite element method is used to model the parts of the planar two-link flexible manipulator. As a result, the effective vibration of the end point of the planar two-link flexible manipulator on the circular trajectory is presented in the format of tables and graphics. MATLAB, Quick BASIC and Visual BASIC was used for the software developed, whereas I-DEAS were utilized as a CAD/CAE software
