Abstract
In this study, facies characteristics and depositional environments of the Neogenelacustrine carbonates around Güney (Denizli) are investigated.Early Pliocene aged Kolonkaya formation contains, dominantly sandstone- marlalternations, rarely jips levels. Late Pliocene aged Ulubey formation consists of, frombottom to top, siltstone- claystone- marl and clayey limestone alternations, sandylimestones, pinkish limestones with karstic spaces and gray- white limestonesIn the study area, 12 stratigraphic sections are measured studied and. According to fieldobservations and analysis of thin sections which were taken from stratigraphic sections, 21microfacies are classified. These microfacies are, carbonate mudstone, ekstraclasticintraclastic wackestone, rudstone, intraclastic rarely pelloidal packstone, intraclasticgrainstone, pelloidal rarely bioclastic packstone, intraclastic rarely pelloidal wackestone, pelloidal grainstone, oncoidal floatstone, ekstraclastic intraclastic floatstone, ekstraclasticwackestone, ostracodal ekstraclastic wackestone, rarely ostracodal mudstone, intraclasticpackstone, bioclastic intraclastic grainstone, ostracodal pelloidal grainstone, boundstone, ostracodal wackestone, ostracodal rarely pelloidal wackestone, oncoidal ostracodalfloatstone, algael ostracodal rarely oncoidal floatstone.Existence of intraclast, ekstraclast, blue-green algae, oncoid, pelloid components and alsoobservation of carbonate mudstone somewhere in microfacies indicate that Kolonkaya andUlubey formations were deposited in the littoral part of the lacustrin. Also, economical significance of marl, thin layered limestone and karstic limestone in thestudy area are expressed.
