Abstract
In the first step of the production process, synthesis of PMMA (Polymethylmethacrylate) spheres was performed. After the resulting solution was centrifuged at different times and speed, it was allowed to dry for 1 week. After drying obtained PMMA powders were made to SEM analysis and thus process optimization was achieved. According to SEM analysis results, occuerence of spheres was observed. The resulting spheres were made ready to be used as template. In the second step of the production process, sol-gel infiltration method was used by vacuum. In this method, silica-based solution was created. It was dropped to the distributed polymer powders over the filter paper in the funnel. Thus, silica was allowed to accumulate around the PMMA spheres. After drying, removal of the polymer template was provided by applying calcination at 550 Degrees Celsius. Obtained the powders examined by SEM, XRD and PSD analysis methods quantitatively. After the analysises were made, opal structure produced was observed. The second sphere beyond the experimental stages and was examined by changing the size of the range production. In the last stage of the study, theproduced photonic crystal based on silica, that wasgotten itsanalaliz, has been simulatedby usiing the RSOFTsoftware (Robinson Software) to look at its geometry. Accordingto the photonic crystal, sphere of intervals is10, 30, 100 nm and the particle size is 200, 800, 1200 nm which resulted from the analysis. By application at first, produced silica based photonic crystal have been simulated, secondly birilloun region and the domains have been observed, and finally stages of the band gap range was obtained. After the calculations required to produce photonic crystal properties were studied based on the results to be optimized. Keywords: Nano ceramic photonic crystal, RSOFT, Simulation
