Abstract
In terms of leather industry today, thanks to nanotecnhology has become more important to improve the traditional combined lubrication system which is used in fatliquoring in leather process. Nanosilica particles are of potential advantages for incorporation into fatliquoring formulations because of their lubricating efficiencies and there are take much interests in terms of attainable value added products with them. In this study aimed at the improvement of physico-mechanical properties of leather thanks to their supplementary benefits. For the purpose; nano-SiO2 materials were prepared by sol gel. After the characterization of them, these was emulsified in a synthetic based lubricant and the obtained emulsions were applied to leather in fatliquoring process. After application to leather, the physical properties of leather were investigated using tensile strength and percentage extension (%), tearing strength tests, permanent elongation and fat content. According to the results; a novel lubricating additives emulsion seems to have satisfiable improvements on the final performance of leather.
