Abstract
64 8. SUMMARY This study has been performed on mice (n=96) and on human subjects (n=12) in order to appreciate thin layer chromatography (TLC), a quick, easy and cheap analyti cal method, as a diagnostic tool in acute poisoning and to test its applicability with present facilities. In experiments on mice, the drugs were given to the animals at the doses which may bring about poisoning on human beings and the offender drug was analyzed in blood and urine samples. The human subjects were patients admitted to the Gevher Nesibe Hospital of Erciyes University with the pre-diagnosis of acute poisoning. The TLC analysis was carried out on blood, urine and stomach content of the patients. The specimens taken from animals and from patients were subjected to the same extraction procedure. In this study, it was demonstrated that dichloromethane alone can be used as ext racting agent. Thus, some drawbacks of ether and chloroform, the most frequently 64 8.
